What is Bindagraphics?

Bindagraphics, Inc., a privately owned company located in Baltimore, Maryland, is the largest trade bindery and finisher on the east coast and the sixth largest in the country. As an industry leader that understands the incredible pace of the printing industry, Bindagraphics enjoys national recognition.

The company has a progressive business posture and is recognized for its unmatched level of capabilities and commitment to maintaining the latest technology. Bindagraphics operates on a two shift schedule and employs approximately 125 people who collectively perform with team spirit. In its continual pursuit of excellence, Bindagraphics is ISO 9001: 2000 certified for its quality management system. Bindagraphics was the first bindery in the United States to achieve ISO certification.

Beyond its binding and finishing capabilities, Bindagraphics has a full service packaging company under the same roof— Pack Appeal. Pack Appeal specializes in custom looseleaf products such as ring binders, slip cases, portfolios, multimedia packaging, and fulfillment services. With its innovative CAD/CAM prepress/post-press system, Pack Appeal is a leader in packaging and folder design. Pack Appeal also offers a large variety of custom index tabs.

A Little Bit of History

One could say "ink" runs through Marty Anson's veins, which would explain his lifelong commitment to the printing business. Both of his grandfathers and his father worked in the industry. Marty earned a degree in Printing Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as worked for a commercial and book printer, before he founded Bindagraphics in January of 1974.

Located in downtown Baltimore, the company had two employees, four machines, and 10,000 square feet. Its services were limited to binding for soft cover books and pamphlets. In 1976, Bindagraphics doubled its space and moved to the Lansdowne section of Baltimore city. Five years later, it added the Quality Information Packaging division and an additional 30,000 square feet. The Tabs & Indexes division opened its doors in the early 1980's.

Since then, the company has experienced steady growth, added numerous services, and relocated once more. Bindagraphics' current facility, completed in January of 1992, is located in the Crossroads Industrial Center in southwest Baltimore. In 2002, a 40,000 square foot climate-controlled addition was completed, for a total of 161,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space. The state-of-the-art building houses all of the Bindagraphics companies.  In 2008 Quality Information Packaging and Tabs & Indexes were re-branded as Pack Appeal.

The fourth generation of Ansons has taken over the reigns of Bindagraphics and it's sister companies.  Matt and Todd Anson now run the daily business with Marty taking a less active role.
